A $1.39 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will expand digital humanities in a transformative way at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, including the hiring of new faculty and the support of graduate students in this emerging field.

Faculty member in archaeology receives a 2012 Presidential volunteer service award E-mail

Scott Madry, Ph.D., of Chapel Hill, research associate professor of archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, received a 2012 President’s Volunteer Service Award from the “making a difference through volunteer service.” The award is given annually to individuals, families, and groups who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and civic participation.

Penn Center Honors UNC for care of Penn School papers E-mail

The Penn Center of St. Helena Island, S.C., has named the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill a member of its 1862 Circle. The center presented the award April 29 to recognize the University’s stewardship of the Penn School papers at the Southern Historical Collection in the Wilson Special Collections Library.
