You don’t have to speak English to ask Phillip Alexander Caprara about winning a Beinecke Scholarship. He’s also fluent in French and Spanish, has advanced proficiency in Italian, speaks some German and Chinese and is a scholar of ancient Latin and Greek.

UNC senior awarded 2013 Boren Scholarship to aid national security E-mail

UNC senior Anastasia Elise Bury of South Haven, Mich., has received a David L. Boren Scholarship through the National Security Education Program to benefit U.S. intelligence efforts. For 12 months, Bury will study abroad in Tajikistan where she will learn Tajik, a dialect of modern Persian that is unknown to many because it’s spoken in few parts of the world.

Ninth class of UNC Buckley Public Service Scholars honored at graduation event E-mail

The 260 members of the Class of 2013 who are Buckley Public Service Scholars at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will be honored Friday, May 10, at a ceremony in Memorial Hall. To represent their achievement, all graduates will receive a Carolina blue and white cord to wear at Commencement May 12.
