The Black Faculty and Staff Caucus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will host its first UNC Minority Business Expo on campus on Sept. 12.
Sponsors and businesses wishing to exhibit at the expo should apply by Aug. 15. To do so, contact Herb Richmond at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or M. Cookie Newsom, caucus president, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or (919) 692-6962. Besides minority businesses showcasing their services and products, the expo will provide an information session, networking opportunities and entertainment, Newsom said. Representatives from banks, the State Employees Credit Union and the Small Business Administration will give information about financing start-up or existing businesses. It also is an opportunity for Carolina students to develop contacts for future internships and public service. “We are sponsoring this event to promote awareness, economic growth and prosperity for small and minority business owners,” said Newsom. “It’s a great opportunity to connect our student entrepreneurial spirit with the need and spirit of supporting economic stimulus locally and across North Carolina.” The caucus, founded in 1974, strives to promote fair recruitment, hiring and retention of minority personnel as well as economically or educationally disadvantaged students.
