Dr. Lisa Sanders will read from and discuss her new book “Every Patient Tells a Story: Medical Mysteries and the Art of Diagnosis,” on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Sanders, an internist at Yale University School of Medicine, is the technical adviser of the Fox TV series “House.” The show, a medical drama which debuted in 2004, was inspired by Sanders’ monthly “Diagnosis” column in the New York Times Magazine. In “Every Patient Tells a Story,” Sanders takes readers bedside to witness the process of solving diagnostic dilemmas. The book examines how, despite technological advancements, modern medicine can miss key diagnostic clues by relying too heavily on a “high-tech,” instead of a “high-touch” approach. The talk will take place at noon in room 2204 of the Medical Biomolecular Research Building on Mason Farm Road. It is free and open to the public. The event is presented by the Health Sciences Library and the School of Medicine’s social medicine department. Later this month, the Health Sciences Library will host several small group discussion sessions about themes in the book. The sessions will be held in room 328. Registration is required.
