Longtime theater benefactor Elizabeth Price Kenan of Chapel Hill will receive the PlayMaker Distinguished Achievement Award Oct. 24 at the 22nd annual PlayMakers Ball at the Carolina Inn. An annual honor given by PlayMakers Repertory Company, the professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the award recognizes Kenan for her loyal and generous support. The Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatre in UNC’s Center for Dramatic Art, home of PlayMakers’ PRC2 second-stage series, is named in her honor. Proceeds from the ball, a black-tie affair, underwrite production costs and artist and designers’ salaries for PlayMakers, part of UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences. The ball will feature the award ceremony followed by dining and dancing to the music of The Bill Bolen Orchestra. The theme is “Carnivale,” celebrating beautiful festivals from around the world. Guests will enjoy a gourmet menu created by Carolina Inn executive chef Jim Reale in rooms decorated by area designers. The designers include Nicole Baxter, NBaxter Design, Durham; Kathy Buck, Purple Puddle, Chapel Hill; Jan Chambers, PlayMakers Repertory Company; McKay Coble, PlayMakers Repertory Company; Mark Day, Mark Day Company, Catering and Event Management, Chapel Hill; and Barrie Gibby, barrettdesign events, Burlington. |
