Claudia Gollop, Ph.D., associate professor at the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been honored by the North Carolina Library Association.

Gollop received the association’s 2009 Roundtable for Ethnic and Minority Concerns Roadbuilders’ Award in library education.

The award recognizes ethnic minority librarians and scholars in library education, academic librarianship, special librarianship and public librarianship who have been pioneers in librarianship and represent a positive role model in the field. The award also recognizes ethnic minority librarians who exemplify courage, integrity and perseverance and have contributed to the field of librarianship.

“We were quite impressed by the breadth of (Gollop’s) experience and with her obvious commitment to multicultural endeavors,” said Anne H. Coleman, Roundtable chair. “Her articles, presentations, research, etc. document her interest and dedication to the provision of information access and services to the underserved sectors of the library community, such as women, older adults and ethnic minorities. She clearly embodies the spirit of the award.”
