Alternative and nuclear energy expert David McNelis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Institute for the Environment will give a talk in Asheville this Thursday (April 29) about the alternative energy landscape and the future of nuclear energy.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, is at 4 p.m. in the Simpson Building Lecture Hall at the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.

Alternative energy sources have been in the national spotlight lately as federal and local governments have taken steps to promote their development and use.

McNelis, director of the institute’s center for sustainable energy, environment and economic development, will talk about the nation’s changing energy landscape and the continued need for clean, safe energy resources.

The talk is part of a series of lectures across North Carolina, made possible through a grant from Progress Energy, designed to expand knowledge of energy science and alternative sources of energy. Progress Energy is also funding professional development workshops to introduce K-12 teachers to energy topics and help them create hands-on activities for students.
