The Grammy-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops are auctioning an autographed Deering Goodtime banjo online to benefit The Center for the Study of the American South, a research unit of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. All members of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, a band described as featuring old-time strings and new-time vibe, have signed the banjo. The auction ends Saturday (Aug. 13). Funds raised will support center music programs, including its Music on the Porch concerts and the annual music issue of the journal Southern Cultures. Proceeds also will benefit the Sounds of the South Undergraduate Research Award, a $1,000 grant that the center awards each spring to a UNC undergraduate to record and work with musicians in Southern music. The auction was made possible by Deering Banjo, Ramseur Records, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Music Makers Relief Foundation. To bid, visit the auction link on Ebay at http://tinyurl.com/3g587ex.
