It's an inpatient treatment center specifically for women suffering from postpartum depression, and doctors and patients say it's desperately needed. Genetics professor appointed to distinguished professorship The Herald-Sun (Durham) Charles M. Perou, PhD, professor of genetics, and pathology and laboratory medicine, and leader of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center breast cancer research program, has been appointed the May Goldman Shaw Distinguished Professor of Molecular Oncology Research. The professorship, established by a $1 million gift from Wally (Class of 1966) and Lil Loewenbaum of Austin, Texas, is named in honor of Mrs. Lowenbaum’s mother, May Goldman Shaw. Chapel Hill pilot still on the lam in larceny The News & Observer (Raleigh) Authorities continued a multi-agency search Wednesday for a Chapel Hill man accused of stealing a plane from UNC-Chapel Hill's airport. Arrest warrants were issued Wednesday for Curtis Rene Mellott, 46, of 114 Mel Oak Drive in Chapel Hill. He is wanted on charges of possession of stolen property in Alamance County and felony larceny at UNC-CH. ECU spokesman John Durham said Hupp will not receive his $350,000 salary because he violated his contract with the university. According to Durham, Hupp held two positions outside the university that he was being paid for, but did not report to officials. There is no word yet on how much of his salary Hupp will actually receive. Durham said Hupp will have to return money from his work at UNC-Chapel Hill, as well as pay back ECU for travel expenses. A&T The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area It appears the Triad will play host to the second inauguration of the University of North Carolina president in a row, when Tom Ross is formally installed in the job on Oct. 6 at N.C. A&T State University. The UNC system has not made a formal announcement of the selection, but a "save the date" notice has been posted on the system's web site. New UNC board learns ropes in private 'retreat' The News & Observer (Raleigh) ...Laura Luger, vice president and general counsel for the UNC system's General Administration, said the event was an informal gathering where no deliberations or decisions were made. Therefore, she said, the university was under no obligation to open the event to the public. "Well, it wasn't a meeting, and we didn't close it," Luger said. "It was outside the scope of an official meeting by all of its parameters." Football Coverage Former Tar Heel player not cited for speeding The News & Observer (Raleigh) Three North Carolina football players and a fourth, who transferred, were involved in a campus wreck in May but not cited for speeding by an officer who had worked on-field game security. Herman Davidson, a senior, was cited for driving without a license after swerving to miss an oncoming car and flipping a vehicle owned by senior linebacker Ebele Okakpu's father.
