Chancellors to convene forum on ‘Globally Competitive South’ Thursday E-mail

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University will sponsor a forum “A Way Forward: Building a Globally Competitive South,” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 17) in Cary. A reception will follow.

Speakers will include UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp and NC State Chancellor Randy Woodson; former N.C. Gov. Jim Hunt; UNC President Tom Ross; N.C. Secretary of Commerce Keith Crisco;  N.C. Central University Chancellor Charlie Nelms; William B. Harrison Jr., a 1966 UNC graduate and the retired chairman and chief executive officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co.; and James W. Owens, former chairman and chief executive officer of Caterpillar Inc., the world’s largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment and a member of the NC State Board of Trustees.

The forum coincides with the release of a report by the same name with essays by North Carolina leaders on how the region can move forward economically, to be posted Nov. 17 at http://gri.unc.edu/.

Directions to SAS: Take I-40 to Harrison Avenue in Cary, Exit 287. If heading west on I-40, turn left at the top of the ramp. Cross the bridge over I-40 and look for SAS immediately on the left. If heading east on I-40, turn right at the top of the ramp and immediately get into the left lane to turn into SAS.

Check-in: Present media identification at the gate. Go a half mile to Building V (blue roof), the forum location, on the left.

Media parking: All media, including microwave and satellite trucks, should park in the U-shaped lot behind Building V.

Live shots: Live shots must be done in the lobby of Building V or outside. Broadcast media should not do live commentary inside the auditorium during the forum.

Sound: Audio feeds will be available.

Cables: It is a 60- to 80-foot throw from the camera set-up area to the stage and 25 feet from that area to the multbox.

Filing stories: Building V has wireless access, available for reporters filing stories. Obtain a password from the front desk upon your arrival.
