Media representatives are invited to cover the announcement of a $10 million commitment from Dr. Hugh A. “Chip” McAllister Jr. of Houston to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that will benefit the Ackland Art Museum and heart disease research at the School of Medicine. Thursday, April 12 UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp and Dr. William Roper, dean of the School of Medicine, vice chancellor for medical affairs and chief executive officer of UNC Health Care, will speak at the announcement. The event will also include the formal dedication of Next Generation II, a large bronze sculpture that stands outside the entrances to the North Carolina Women’s and Children’s hospitals. A reception will follow. Directions to UNC hospitals: From Durham or Raleigh, take US 15-501 South bypass to Manning Drive. Turn right onto Manning Drive. The N.C. Cancer Hospital is on the right, about nine-tenths of a mile from US 15-501. The labyrinth and serenity garden are in front of the cancer hospital.
