Dennis Gillings, 67, has led Quintiles since the company was incorporated in 1982, except for a two-year period from 2001 to 2003. The company, whose major work is in the management of clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies, traces its roots to Gillings’ work as a consultant while he was a former statistics professor at UNC Chapel Hill.
