For a behind-the-scenes look at simulated surgical procedures, media representatives may observe resident training sessions during a special “boot camp” at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Friday Center for Continuing Education will undergo a unique transformation from conference center to surgical facility in preparation for the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association Cardiothoracic Surgery Boot Camp.  First-year thoracic surgery residents from across the country will join top-notch faculty for hands-on practice in surgical techniques.

This weekend course incorporates simulated emergency scenarios and surgery demonstrations and allows students to experience life-like simulation for surgical procedures including cardiopulmonary bypass, aortic valve repair and lung ventilation.

Note: Media representatives must contact program director Richard Feins at (919) 966-3381 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to schedule an appropriate time to visit. Media visits are welcome, but must be coordinated so they do not interfere with the residents’ education.
