Media representatives are invited to join the 2008 Tar Heel Bus Tour for a stop Wednesday in Charlotte. The privately funded tour, which continues through Friday (May 16), is taking 36 new UNC-Chapel Hill faculty members across the state to learn about its people, economy, environment, culture and history.

Wednesday (May 14)
8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Carole Hoefner Center
610 E. Seventh St., Charlotte

New faculty members will learn more about the Pathways to Prosperity Initiative, a demonstration project coordinated by UNC-Chapel Hill’s Center for Community Capital in the College of Arts and Sciences. The center is working with First Charter Bank and the Banking Commissioner of North Carolina to help the Charlotte Housing Authority give its employees financial training  and assist them in opening bank accounts. The housing authority has also made the assistance available to the 500 participants in its Family Self Sufficiency Program. Pathways to Prosperity is part of a comprehensive plan that is helping public housing residents move from poverty to prosperity.
