Media representatives are invited to experience hands-on science activities aboard one of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Destiny traveling science laboratories at the fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration in Durham. Saturday (June 14) 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Hayti Heritage Center 804 Fayetteville St., Durham Note: The Destiny traveling science laboratory will be parked near North Carolina Central University on Fayetteville Street. Juneteenth Celebration attendees will be invited to participate in various science activities, which will include extracting DNA from strawberries and creating colorful bracelets that reflect genetic traits. The Destiny traveling science learning program is a science education outreach initiative of Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at UNC-Chapel Hill that serves pre-college teachers and students across North Carolina. Destiny develops and delivers a standards-based, hands-on curriculum and teacher professional development with a team of educators and a fleet of vehicles that travel throughout the state. The Juneteenth Celebration and Unity March in Durham commemorates the Emancipation Proclamation and is a celebration of African-American culture and achievement. It features a variety of seminars, exhibits and information booths, a health fair, children’s activities, food and entertainment. It is organized by the Triangle Cultural Awareness Foundation Inc.
