Trina Seitz of Appalachian State University is unable to participate as scheduled in a panel discussion of capital punishment, set for Feb. 5 in UNC’s Wilson Library. Other previously announced panelists still are expected to attend. The discussion, “Facing Controversy: Struggling with Capital Punishment in North Carolina,” will be free to the public from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sen. Ellie Kinnaird (D-Orange), UNC doctoral candidate Seth Kotch, whose dissertation will be on the history of the death penalty in North Carolina, and Rex Gore, district attorney for Bladen, Brunswick, and Columbus counties, will discuss the history of the death penalty in North Carolina over the last 100 years. The program will mark the opening of the Southern Historical Collection exhibit “Facing Controversy: Struggling with Capital Punishment in North Carolina,” on display in the Davis Library entrance and Wilson Library lobby through Feb. 28.
