Dr. Mauricio G. Cohen, an assistant professor in the UNC School of Medicine and director of the UNC Healthy Heart Latino Initiative, has been appointed associate editor of a newly launched Spanish-language Web site called Cardiosource en Español. Sponsored by the American College of Cardiology, Cardiosource en Español (http://www.cardiosource.com/espanol.asp ) is aimed at Spanish-speaking cardiology professionals around the world. This new site provides clinical information in Spanish, including news, expert opinions, case studies, journal scans, abstracts from the Journals of the American College of Cardiology and discussion forums. It will also feature videos in Spanish from cardiology experts around the world and plans to provide original content from Spain and Latin American countries. As director of the Healthy Heart Latino Initiative, Cohen provides health care services and outreach to the growing Latino community in North Carolina. He joined the UNC faculty in 2003 as an assistant professor in the department of medicine’s division of cardiology. He has extensive research experience in health care delivery and outcomes for Hispanics with coronary artery disease. A native of Argentina, Cohen graduated from Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, Argentina in 1991. He served as a resident and cardiology fellow at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, one of the major referral medical centers in South America. In 1997, Cohen was awarded the Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology Duke Scholarship, offered to the top Latin American young cardiologist each year. This award allowed Cohen to continue his training at Duke University Medical Center, where he specialized in interventional cardiology. After completing his training in 1999, Cohen rejoined Hospital Italiano in Buenos Aires, as clinical research director in the department of interventional cardiology. He has also worked as a clinical trials reviewer for the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs for the National Administration of Medicine, Food and Medical Technologies, the equivalent of the FDA in Argentina.
