Media representatives are invited to join the 2008 Tar Heel Bus Tour for stops Friday in Greensboro and Randleman. The privately funded tour, which concludes Friday (May 16), is taking 36 new UNC-Chapel Hill faculty members across the state to learn about its people, economy, environment, culture and history. Friday (May 16) 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. James B. Dudley Senior High School 1200 Lincoln St., Greensboro This stop will highlight a visit aboard the traveling science bus, Destiny, a program of the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at UNC-Chapel Hill. Bus tour participants and high school students from a medical careers class will experience the on-board science experience Destiny has to offer. Following the Destiny presentation, participants will have lunch with the students and learn about the presence of the Carolina College Advising Corps at Dudley High School from Camille Cates, a 2007 Carolina graduate and adviser. The Advising Corps is an innovative program that sends recent college graduates into underserved high schools as guides to navigating the confusing world of college applications and financial aid forms for students who otherwise might not have considered college as an option. Bus tour participants will learn about its impact on children’s lives from camp medical director Peter Sims. The Craniofacial Center at UNC-Chapel Hill has worked with the camp to provide children with craniofacial anomalies a chance to attend.
