DeSimone awarded Lemelson-MIT Prize for innovations in polymer chemistry


UNC-Chapel Hill's Joseph DeSimone is the 2008 recipient of the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for his inventions in green manufacturing, nanomedicine and medical devices, in addition to his lab-to-market entrepreneurship and commitment to mentorship. Trachoma, a bacterial infection that can lead to blindness if untreated, has been all but eliminated in the United States, Europe and other parts of the developed world. Now, there’s hope that the disease can be controlled in developing countries as well, according to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health adjunct epidemiology professor, Dr. Joseph A. Cook, M.P.H., writing in the April 24, 2008 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM).

UNC alumnus, Kardon Foundation give $1 million to establish Kittner Eye Center Print E-mail
