Wednesday, July 30, 2008
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill biostatistics professor Michael Kosorok has been appointed to the board of trustees of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences.

Kosorok is chair of the biostatistics department in the UNC School of Public Health and also teaches in the statistics and operations research department.

The institute’s board unanimously approved Kosorok’s appointment, along with four other new members. Members of the board serve three-year terms.

Kosorok earned his doctorate from the University of Washington in 1991 and has also taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The National Institute of Statistical Sciences was established in 1990 by the national statistics societies and the Research Triangle universities and organizations. Its missions include: identifying, catalyzing and fostering high-impact, cross-disciplinary research involving the statistical sciences; confronting complex, data-driven scientific problems of national importance; and providing career development opportunities for statisticians and scientists, especially those in the formative stages of their careers.
