Saskia Sassen, Ph.D., of Columbia University will speak about sustainable human settlement and the global economy on Feb. 4 at UNC. Her talk, “The Border in a Global Economy,” will be free to the public at 8 p.m. in the FedEx Global Education Center, at the corner of McCauley and Pittsboro streets.
Sassen recently completed a five-year UNESCO project on sustainable human settlement for which she set up a network of researchers and activists in more than 30 countries. Her books include “Territory, Authority, Rights: From Medieval to Global Assemblages” (Princeton University Press, 2006) and “A Sociology of Globalization” (Norton, 2007).
