UNC professor tapped to head science teachers E-mail

Pat Shane of the School of Education of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recently was elected the 2009-2010 president of the National Science Teachers Association. She will serve a three-year term beginning June 1.
Shane, a former middle school teacher and counselor, is associate director of the UNC school’s Center for Mathematics and Science Education and clinical professor of science education. She is a past president of both the North Carolina Science Leadership Association and the North Carolina Science Teachers Association. She received her doctorate at UNC in 1987 and has edited five books about science leadership and science issues.

The National Science Teachers Association is the world’s largest organization committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning. Its current membership of more than 55,000 includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives and others involved in and committed to science education.
