The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has become the first college or university in the state to establish a chapter of Tau Sigma, a national honor society for transfer students. From the past two entering transfer classes, 346 transfer students were invited this month to join UNC-Chapel Hill’s chapter. |

The Carolina Women’s Center has announced a call for nominations for the 2008 University Awards for the Advancement of Women. Also sponsored by the offices of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, this award recognizes contributions to the advancement of women at Carolina. Each year, three individuals — one faculty member, one staff member and one student — may be selected to receive the award. The faculty and staff recipients each receive $5,000, and the student recipient receives $2,500. Awardees are honored in an award celebration during the Carolina Women’s Center’s annual Women’s Week Celebration. |

Media representatives are invited to cover the following visits to Durham and Greensboro by faculty and residents from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Dentistry. Members of the school’s department of pediatric dentistry will provide dental screenings, preventive care and restorative treatments as a part of the “Give Kids a Smile” national children’s dental access day. |

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School has established what is believed to be the first investment fund in real estate through its Center for Real Estate Development, as well as a private equity fund through its Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. Both funds are run exclusively by business students.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser today (Jan. 24) announced that the Carolina First Campaign raised $2.38 billion to finish as the fifth largest completed campaign in U.S. higher education and the largest completed fund-raising drive at a university in the South. A $9 million pledge to the UNC School of Pharmacy from Fred Eshelman of Wilmington pushed the campaign to that historic mark. |
